Admission of International Students
General Admission Requirements
All applicants must possess at least a secondary education diploma, which enables them to study at higher education institutions in the country where they have completed their secondary education.

Application Procedure

Application Deadlines
We accept applications for bachelor's and master's programs till September 1.
For applicants for doctoral programs the closing date is November 1.

Applications received after these dates will be considered on case-by-case basis.

Application
Applicants to bachelor's programs have to submit the following Application Documents:

  1. Completed Application Form (or download form in MS-Word RTF format from our web site).
  2. Copy of applicant’s secondary education diploma - for those who wish to start as 1st year students.
  3. Transcript (a document issued by applicant’s university/college, which lists courses, course hours and grades received) - for those who have already started their higher education level studies and would like to continue them at the Technical University of Sofia.
  4. Health certificate issued within 1 month before the date of application.
  5. Two recent photographs of the applicant.
  6. Application for Accommodation (optional)(download form in RTF format).
The documents described in items 2, 3 and 4 must be properly legalized, translated by a sworn translator into Bulgarian (or into English or French in case the above is not possible) and certified by relevant country's Ministry of Education (the health certificate must be certified by the Ministry of Health instead), Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Bulgarian Embassy.

Doctoral and master’s programs applicants should contact the International Department for further admission information.

All documents should be mailed or delivered in person otherwise will not be processed.

Admission
Selection of international applicants to the Technical University of Sofia is done without an entrance examination on the basis of the submitted Application Documents and the proof for paid tuition fee. All applications will be considered by the relevant bodies of the Technical University of Sofia and the Bulgarian Ministry of Education and Science.

Financial
The Bulgarian currency is called lev. However, to simplify financial planning all fees, prices, expenses, etc. are given in US Dollars (USD). In Bulgaria there is no problem to exchange any convertible currency in levs and vice versa.

Tuition fees
For the 2002-2003 academic year the tuition fee for bachelor's and master's programs is USD 3000 per academic year, while for doctoral programs is USD 3500 per academic year. This covers registration, supervision, courses, examinations, and charges for laboratory equipment and materials.
The tuition fee is payable in two equal parts at the beginning of each semester.

Bulgarian for academic purposes
This is a special full-time one-year preparatory course for students whose first language is not Bulgarian and those who need to improve their command of the language before starting their degree program. Foreign students learn Bulgarian language, mathematics, physics, chemistry and informatics in Bulgarian. The tuition fee is USD 2500 per academic year.
International students who have Bulgarian citizenship pay only 50% of the tuition fees.

Way of payment
Payment should be made

  • by bank transfer to the Technical University of Sofia OR
  • in cash at the Branch of Technical University of Sofia in Sliven.
The required amounts must reach the Technical University - Sofia br. in Sliven before starting relevant semester. Accommodation
Accommodation at students’ hostels is provided at a minimal cost. The basic cost of residence is up to USD 19 per month. This includes provision of heating and light but not food. There are rooms for 2 or 3 persons, some are with phone connection and access to the Internet.
Living expenses depend on individual tastes - up to USD 30 per week including meal and social activities. Books and study materials cost about USD 50 per semester, while libraries are free.

All materials submitted in support of the application will not be returned or forwarded to another institution.
