HISTORY

The TU Branch in Sliven was set up in 1986 initially as a Teacher Training Continuing Education Centre for Engineers with a faculty status. In 1990 the Centre was trans-formed into Teacher Training for Engineers Faculty /TTEF/-a Branch of the HIMEE-Sofia in Sliven. Until the end of 1997 TTEF had 9 departments:

1. Department of Electronics and Automation
2. Department of Electrical Engineering
3. Department of Mechanical Engineering
4. Department of Transport and Power Engineering
5. Department of Mechanics
6. Department of Engineering Physics and Chemistry
7. Department of Applied Mathematics and Information Science
8. Department of Teacher Training for Engineers
9. Department of Economics and Management.

At the end of 1997 with a decision of the Academic Council of TU-Sofia these 9 de-partments were transformed into 4 departments, namely:

1. Department of Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Automatics after the merg-ing of the previous departments of Electronics and Automatics and Electrical En-gineering
2. Department of Mechanics, Mechanical Engineering and Heat Engineering after the merging of the previous departments of Mechanical Engineering, Mechanics and Transport and Power Engineering
3. Department of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry after the merging of the previ-ous departments of Applied Mathematics and Information Science and Engineer-ing Physics and Chemistry
4. Department of Teacher Training and Management after the merging of the previous departments of Teacher Training for Engineers and Economics and Manage-ment.

The Dean of TTEF, who is director of the Branch in Sliven, is a member of the Academic Council of TU-Sofia by rights. The Branch has 4 divisions responsible for the administrative services. There are also R&D sector and a Sector for Continuing Education, but they do not have permanently appointed staff.
